Inspired by our own experiences as parents embarking on lengthy road trips with our ten-year-old in tow, we discovered ourselves immersing in the traditional license plate game, jotting down notable sightings on pieces of paper. Once we reached our destination, we tallied up the number of distinct plates we had encountered before resetting the count for our homeward journey. It struck us as immensely entertaining to highlight the plates that emerged from far-flung locations, eventually leading us to develop the initial version of this app. Drawing inspiration from our daughter's fascination with rare item drops in other games, we infused the language of rarity into Plates of Legend—and it resonated with her completely. She never fails to announce the rarity level in a range of tones from a disinterested drone for "common," to elevated interest for "rare," and finally, to genuine excitement while exclaiming "epic." As a small added touch, I included dazzling visual effects that she takes great joy in repeatedly triggering, purely for the sheer delight of witnessing their brilliance.
